Olga Wojciechowska

Maps and Mazes | TRS090

trs090 deluxe front variations

This first album proper from Polish composer/ violinist Olga Wojciechowska was originally released on CD by Time Released Sound, and has been out of print for some years. We are very pleased to be bringing you this long overdue vinyl re-press, in an edition of only 200 copies, 75 of which come in an absolutely absurd limited edition box version w/180gm translucent disc, and 125 of which come in a beautifully printed heavyweight jacket, also with the translucent record.

Maps and Mazes is a stunning collection of 10 pieces that were originally written for various international theater and dance productions, and their overall feel reflects this performative nature. These electronically treated, modern-classical beauties are somewhat dark and moody at times, and with their elegiac violin and haunting horns are both elegant and absorbing, and the ultimately lingering effect is one of series of spine tingling, late night serenades.

TRS090 comes in two physical versions.  This first, deluxe limited edition version comes in an edition of just 75 copies, each of these coming in the form of an absurdly modified and artified 60 year old Classical music box. The cover of each box has an original, handmade, mixed media map of sorts attached to it. Hinged and over-layed on this is a maze printed vintage atlas page. Each original map beneath is made with spray paint, pastel powders, pencil, ink, and rubber stampings on heavy fine art paper. The spine of each box is painstakingly hand stamped in metallic silver ink. Inside the front of each box is composed a disassembled and deliberately re-structured and misleading mapscape made of collaged atlas/map pages from a variety of sources. The inside  back of each box has been lined with a large piece of adhered striped linen fabric, and enfolded in this sheet is the 180gm translucent record inside it’s own folded, very oversized atlas page. Finally… tucked into this bed of music is a large, full color, folded, U.S. Army Aeronautical chart. Each of these “record sleeves” is then wrapped with a latitudinal and longitudinal obi strip. On the back of each box is the hand stamped textual insert in the form of a modified, corner mounted, vintage aerial photograph. Each of these 1.5 lb beauties comes snug in its own oversized poly sleeve.

This release was truly a labor of love…and the overall lure of the maps themselves are the perfect antidote to being locked indoors during a global pandemic! We can at least dream of a time when we can travel again! Persona Non Grata!

This release also comes in a very limited “standard” vinyl version of only 125 copies. Each of these beauties comes in a heavyweight jacket, and also with the sea gray translucent record.

As usual the copy you receive may or may not be the one pictured, as these are all handmade and uniquely different.

This release will ship by the first week of August 2020.
