At last…a new album from Catherine Watine! After releasing her previous album Géométries Sous-Cutanées, we are more than thrilled to be collaborating on this second album in the proposed trilogy from the wonderful French pianist/composer, that is already gathering great European reviews.

In the words of French radio host Luc Marianni (Radio RGB Cergy Pontoise, France)

“ A wonderful and enchanted record! I enjoyed all the sonic blends of piano resonance and subtle sounds throughout the album. There is an analogy with guitarists who use echo and pedal volume (like Fred Frith from Henry Cow for example, Steve Hackett from Genesis or David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) who “let the sound unfold”. And the end piece (in the “style of Bolero by Ravel”) which concludes this impressionist work would have been appreciated by the Group of 6, or the Arcueil School of Honneger, Milhaud or even Sauguet under the impulse of both the great Satie, and the most endearing musician, and the most ‘surrealist’ of his time, the solitary, minimalist dandy, the master of musical impressionism, Debussy himself.”

Time Released Sound is hosting the American release of “Intrications Quantiques” in our usual over-the-top fashion. We have taken the wonderfully original, standard vinyl jacket artwork by artist Caroline Lysiak, and deconstructed it, in order to add a degree of dimensionality to the 75 painstakingly hand worked jackets that we are making for the Deluxe Limited Edition version. We have started by printing the cover artwork ourselves on heavyweight fine art paper, on an archival printer. We then neatly cut the heads of Aphrodite out of each of their cosmic planetary backgrounds, and sewed antique lace trim into her hair on an industrial sewing machine. We then offset, and re-mounted the cut pieces on heavyweight, recycled Kraftboard record jackets, after first attaching behind them a variety of different sorts of colorful and metallic Japanese fine art papers as backgrounds to add to the overall dimensional effect. A small black stick has been added to the head of Aphrodite on each, to turn it into a mask of sorts. On the back of each record jacket is a mounted, actual page from a rare and obscure, highly detailed photographic Atlas of the moon…each print is uniquely different, and shows one small section of the lunar surface, with textual references for the lunar seas and mountains and valleys pictured as well. Around each of these prints the jacket has been further modified with spray painted white planets, and then extensively hand stamped with stars, and clouds that pass across the surface of the moon. Within each of these beauties is the vinyl in an inner black poly lined sleeve, a 4 page printed insert, and the actual backside of the beautiful standard version jacket with the track titles and credits. The whole package then comes in an outer polysleeve.

As usual each copy of this release is unique, and the one you receive may or may not be the one pictured.

There is also an imported Standard Vinyl version, as well as a very limited CD version of this release available.

This release will ship the week of October 12th 2020.

Watine has played piano since the age of 3. She first appeared in the punk scene (Random Moods), and with trip- hop in 2006 (Dermaphrodite), which opened the door to cinematographic pop and two albums (B-side Life, Still Grounds For Love). She then lends her voice on an album dedicated to Emily Dickenson (This Quiet Dust), before releasing “Atalaye” in 2015, a very piano centric album, all in french and close in feel to Satie and Fauré.

Catherine Watine artist photoHer sense of freedom then pushed her towards electronic experimentation, home-made samples, field recordings, piano themes, and collaged bits from unreleased material. She creates her own pastoral post-pop music while referencing prog-rock, and the electronic obsessions of serial music.
In 2019 with Geometries Sous-Cutanées (TRS082) Watine again stirred-up the french underground music press, who hailed the album as one of the musical highlights of the year.
