Finally! We are extremely pleased to at last be releasing this beautiful soundtrack by Kira Kira and Hermigervill, to the recent Icelandic film, Sumarbörn. These two friends have teamed up and created a delicate and ethereal ode to lost childhood and the potential perils of living in an adult world.
In this period-style piece, who’s title translates to Summer Children, Eydis and Kari are sent by their mother to the Icelandic countryside. They soon realize that some kids go home again, while some stay on to become “winter children”, and that they are in fact in a strict orphanage. As they dream of going home, the film brings in surreal elements and visions. Watch the trailer here.
The music is at times magical and mysterious, playful, and dramatic…all in tinkling tones of glockenspiel, choral references and neo-romantic classicism. The electronic over workings perfectly suit the childlike and dreamlike qualities behind the film and it’s storyline, creating a wondrous blend of reality and fantasy in sound.
TRS081 is available in two physical vinyl editions, as well as digitally.
The handmade deluxe version comes is a limited edition version of only 50 copies. Each of these packages comes in the form of a re-purposed 50 year old cloth hinged classical music box. The cover features a still from the film, printed on the highest quality Moab rag natural printing paper. Each box is covered inside with vintage, distressed mirrored film, and has an attached drop down paper “ocean”…with a hand folded filagreed fine art paper boat tucked in behind it. On the underside of each paper ocean is a hand printed and numbered insert with the title tracks and album credits. Also tucked behind the drop down is an amazingly unique, 180gm, watery translucent silver-blue record in a black polylined sleeve. When folded open, the mirrored interior of the box perfectly reflects the elusive and transitory nature of the film, and yourselves! Each box comes in an oversized polybag for protection.
ATTENTION! Please take care not to touch the mirrored surfaces of the box. Although this is vintage film , and is somewhat distressed already…new fingerprints are difficult to remove. Do not brush anything across the surface…look but please don’t touch!
There is also a standard vinyl version of this release in a printed jacket with the same image on the cover. It also comes with the special watery180gm vinyl.
As usual your copy may or may not look exactly like the ones pictured. Each copy is unique.
This release will ship the week of April 10th 2019.
